What We Believe
South Jeff is a non-denominational church, committed to Christianity as it is expressed in the Bible. The following explanation of our beliefs is not meant to be comprehensive, but only introductory. We understand that it may not answer all your questions, so we encourage you to participate in our introductory class - STARTING POINT - to learn more.
-
We believe there is only one God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He created us and all things. We are to worship Him in Spirit and Truth. Genesis 1 & 2; John 1:1-3
-
We believe the Bible is the revelation of God’s work and will for us. The Bible alone is our authority and only rule of faith and practice. 2 Timothy 3:16; Psalm 119
-
We believe Jesus is the Living and only Son of God, our Savior and Lord. John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8
-
We believe we are to live under the direction of the Holy Spirit to know the truth and to be empowered to live victorious lives. He (the Holy Spirit) is a gift of Jesus Christ to all Christians. Acts 2:38; Romans 8:5-6
-
We believe that baptism, as taught and demonstrated in the Scriptures, is a necessary condition, along with faith, confession and repentance for receiving the gift of salvation. Baptism by immersion is a picture of Christ’s own death, burial and resurrection. We believe that none of these conditions, in and of themselves, is sufficient for the assurance of salvation. We are saved by the grace of God because Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins. Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9-10; Galatians 3:27; Ephesians 2:8-10
-
We believe all persons of all ethnicities are created in the image of God and need the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Galatians 3:28; Colossians 3:11
-
We believe in sharing in the communion of the Lord’s Supper each week as was the custom of the New Testament Church. Acts 20:7
-
We believe in Christian unity among all who profess Jesus Christ as Lord. John 17:20-21; 1 Peter 3:8
-
We believe in a life as fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We believe in providing Biblically based, Christ-centered messages with life application. We believe in teaching that the fruit of a life devoted to Jesus will reflect a desire to become more and more obedient to what He taught. 1 John 2:3-6
-
We believe we are to fulfill our Lord’s Great Commission to make disciples of all people. Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8
-
We believe in the Scriptural importance of local leaders, appointing Elders, Deacons and others to help lead South Jeff toward Christ. 1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Peter 5:1-4
